Shark Fin Soup

75 million sharks are killed every year

for their fins.

Sharks are on their way toward extinction and one of the main reasons sharks are being killed is because of a popular dish in China called Shark Fin Soup. The fins are brutally cut off of the sharks and often times the sharks are thrown back into the ocean to sink and die a painful death.

For every 75 million sharks killed per year, about 4 humans are killed by sharks every year.

  • Ever wonder what happens to the tigers killed by poachers in India and Nepal?  In some cases their bones are steeped in distilled spirits in China to 
    produce tiger bone wine.

  • At a secret factory in China, a reporter for the South China Morning Post found 600 tiger skeletons soaking in alcohol to produce 200,000 bottles of wine.

  • Many Asian communities believe that tiger bone, in powdered form or prepared as, “tiger wine,” soothes rheumatic pain and cures ulcers, malaria and burns.

  • For more than 1,000 years the use of tiger parts has been included in the traditional Chinese medicine regimen. Because of the tiger’s strength and mythical power, the Chinese culture believes that the tiger has medicinal qualities, which helps treat chronic ailments, cure disease and replenish the body’s essential energy.
